Cookies For Chinese New Year

Pineapple Tarts

Melting Butter Cookies

All these are homemade cookies purposely sold for the coming Chinese New Year. They are soft with a thick butter taste. The pineapple tarts are my favourite. Even the pineapple filling are hand grated. All are purely own handmade. That's why the price is much higher. It costs RM23 for just even 26 pieces! I can finish all 26 of them within 2 days, if I want.

As for the melting butter cookies, it is somehow like dissolved when put into your mouth. There is another type which is the crunchy type. I prefer the melting taste.

Where do I get this? They are from YUMMY - Kitchen Bake & Dine.

There is another highlight from the shop. Will upload the picture on 2 February!!

Mother-In-Law Is A Great Cook

Look here! Isn't she a great cook? It was my hubby's birthday yesterday ~ based on the Chinese calendar, actual birthday is the 27th of November.

She can even bake salted crabs. She just learnt it from a short lesson on the television, and there she was, prepared those yummy crabs for us so easily.

MIL used to prepare a drumstick and two eggs for the birthday boy or girl in her family. Hubby told me that this has been usual since they were a child. Anyway, she didn't do it for me as she said she only can remember her own children's birthday...... :(
It's fine, as I don't like this kind of food.

YUMMY - Kitchen Bake & Dine

Introducing here a famous kitchen bake & dine shop, known as YUMMY. I came to know of it long time ago but seldom patron it. Recently I found galore of good products from here. YUMMY organises cooking and baking classes for adults and children each month based on schedule. You can find those baking ingredients, utensils and equipments there. This is suppose its originated business nature.

Anyway, the owners is selling organic products and health food now. They are providing some health demonstration and consultation for their customers as well. This is their value added to their business. I like whatever they are doing. I feel that I learn a lot about health care when talking to them.

Above was their homemade mooncakes which I bought during the recent Mooncake Festival. Not a very nice shot, but they tasted good. I love their Shanghai mooncake if compared with Overseas Restaurant's product. They were much softer and tastier. Can say, "真材实料" !!

Apple Pie Bun

I tried this homemade bun today and it was nice. Soft bun, not too sweet or sour......made with natural ingredients. The price is not that expensive, just RM1.80 per piece.

One of the owner, who is a mother, claims that she cooks healthy food with no preservative flavouring for her children everyday. She discourages her children to take outside food, and therefore, her children grow healthily all the time.

My children and I are now consuming some of their organic health products. I will try to show my readers here in my coming posts.

Mooncake Festival Celebration

An antique of the past from China

My father-in-law got this during his China tour last year. This set is believed to have been used by the emperors in China aged ago. On that night, we all pampered ourselves with the grape wine made by my mother-in-law. Of course, have to store the wine for some time to ensure its taste. Those grapes used were bought from China.

These are another types of wine cups from China. These are called, "Shimmering Green Cup" ~ 夜光杯 . Funny name ya! Can you see the colour of it? When you see it in the dark, it is like shining. FIL told me that these cups are made of some kind of stone, and they are hard to be broken. Have you heard of this poem?

葡萄美酒夜光杯,
欲饮琵琶马上催。
醉卧沙场君莫笑,
方来征战几人回?

Hope you all enjoy the above historical poem ! ...... if you know Mandarin.....hehehe.. ;)

After dinner at home, we laid the table for god serving ceremony on that night to celebrate the festival. Mostly were fruits. I did buy a special homemade agar-agar mooncake to serve the god and goddess.

Does it look nice? It is called "七星伴月" ~ translated......moon accompanied by seven stars! The filling was made by dragonfruit. I bought this from a parent of my tuition centre. Only cost me RM18 for this.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival

A very special day for all Chinese! There are all kinds of mooncakes in the market. I personally like Shanghai mooncake. Haven't got time to snap a few photos of it. Just show one of the specialties nowadays. Agar-agar mooncakes with different kinds of beans filling. You can see red beans, green beans, corns and also yam. I tried each flavour a piece, and then not feeling like taking another piece. Very "zai".....! Full of santan! I then bought another type with fruits filling instead of beans but haven't tried out. Should be better than this............I try and tell you all, ok?

Anyway, wishing all

Happy Mooncake Festival !!!

Mango Pudding

Upon repeated request by my dear Wei Wei, I decided to make a mango pudding for her yesterday. Below are the ingredients that I used.

HollyFarm ready-made dessert powder

A mango which was cut into cubes

I have bought the packet of mango dessert powder for a few weeks already. Till yesterday only I moved my hand! .... Lazy mummy........ I bought a mango from a coffee shop as I promised to put mango as fillings.

Ways of preparation are very easy:-

1) Put HollyFarm dessert powder into 500ml boiling water, continue to stir constantly till the powder dissolves;

2) Then pour into mould and put those mango cubes into it. Allow it to cool;

3) Dessert will set in 30 minutes with refrigeration and ready to be served.

Easy? Definitely yes!! Unfortunately, mine is considered a failure as I put too much water. The pudding turned out to be a bit watery. Yet, it was finished within few minutes by the children.

Dumpling Festival

My MIL will definitely celebrate every important Chinese cultural festival each year. Today is the Dumpling Festival and this is the dumpling that she made. It's tasty even she has not been making it since few years ago.

What ingredients can you see here? It's homemade and of course the best contents will be put inside. Besides the usual one like mushrooms, chestnuts and salt eggs, she put oyster, scallops and even baby abalone! My MIL is very clever at cooking indeed. I hope I may receive some skills from her .....
